Enchanted Forest!

Look what I got!
Last week,  I was 'baby sitting' my twelve year old niece and ten year old nephew.
We had a lot of fun while painting and drawing an art project for their rooms.
When I went back home they gave me a present: Johanna Basford's second colouring book, Enchanted Forest!

That night, I immediately started colouring, but this book is different, very different. I think I need other equipment than my beloved Bruynzeel Design Pencils...

The paper in Secret Garden was very suitable for my Bruynzeel pencils. It turned out to be a perfect match. The paper had a little tooth which made it easy to layer and shade.
The paper used in Enchanted Forest however, is much smoother and thicker. It is much more suitable for ink, water colour and water colour pencils.
That's nice too, but my favourite medium for drawing just happens to be coloured pencil!
My Bruynzeel Design Pencils produce a wax bloom much faster on this smooth paper. I really do not want that to happen!
So I colour with an extremely light touch so that I can layer as many colours as possible. But with some practice my pencils may do fine. So I'll practice a lot!

Here is a short video about me colouring the very first page of Enchanted Forest.

Lately I tested a brand that will do great in Enchanted Forest: Faber Castell Polychromos.
I really want to have these pencils but I will not buy them before I take this book to an art supply store and try them in the book.
Until then, I will try different media and I will save the prettiest pages for the pencils I'll eventually find most suitable for this beautiful book.

  1. I really enjoy watching your videos & am learning a lot about coloring in layers from you. Another thing I enjoy about watching your videos is that you are left handed & hold your pencils just like me! Keep up,the good work!
